why is it that people fail to see the infinite amount of beauty that surrounds them and it requires a huge frivolous display of extravagent and redundant waste of resources which serve only to pollute the atmosphere and air around them to feel the passing adrenaline and high of spirit? can that few minutes of bright lights and beautiful display of colours mean more to you than the concrete buildings and what little we have left of nature around us?
what does the government do to attract its people to an outdoor event? implement fireworks.
and every year the budget just gets bigger doesn't it? wouldn't it be a better idea to use that amount of money to fund the starving arts groups? or to donate it to some charity and the mediacorp actors won't have to torment themselves to raise money? or revamp parking signs so the drivers can see the small print and not get fined so often?
seriously, how do fireworks contribute to the economy?
we know singapore is a tropical place, so naturally it's hot as hell...... don't fireworks fog up the atmosphere and contribute to the greenhouse effect? so much for el nino........
why do we need to indulge in extravagences when we can meet other needs which are more economical and practical and logical? do the people really think that the government loves its people cuz they give us pretty exploding gunpowder and sparkles in the sky? how naive is that? to be bought over by some overpriced gunpowder and fancy technology? yes, i do confess that fireworks are a pretty sight.........
but whatever happened to the good old sunrise and sunset? i would rather watch the serene sunset anyday than squeeze with the rest of singapore in merlion park to catch some noisy smelly pollutive burst and cackle of coloured gunpowder.......... listening to the ships' foghorns sound in unison and in reply to one another is a much more delightful and fulfilling experience than hearing the pop and cackle of gunpowder
but that is how things are viewed nowadays isn't it? where the more expensive things are rapidly ousting aside the older, cheaper alternatives......... everything now is about value and granduer.... about price and size......... the bigger, the louder, the more, is better....... no time to be lost on sentimentality and feeling........ the world is moving ahead and so must we....... no time to think, only time to do..........
-Random Thoughts of the Day-
and when you realise that you have stopped and the world has moved on without you, what do you do?
what happens if you move ahead of the world? will you be held to acclaim? or condemned by the masses as 'different'?
